Prof. Iztok Prezelj

Iztok Prezelj is a Head of Defence Research Centre at the University of Ljubljana. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences (2021–2025) and previously as Vice-Dean for Research (2017–2021) and Head of the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana. From 2015 to 2017, he was the pedagogical Head of the Chair of Defence Studies. He earned his PhD in 2004 at the University of Ljubljana with a dissertation on crisis management. Dr. Prezelj published extensively on threat and risk assessment, national security, crisis management, counter-terrorism, intelligence studies, critical infrastructure, etc. He has served as a guest researcher or lecturer at several renowned institutions, including Princeton University, Leiden University, the University of Sarajevo, the University of Vienna, and the WEU Institute for Security Studies in Paris. In 2014, he was Adjunct Professor in the Program on Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism (PTSS) at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He has also led multiple research projects in the above mentioned fields.
