PhD Candidate · University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) · Switzerland

Hussein is a PhD student at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland. He works in the Trustworthy and Secure Information Networks and Society group at the Institute of Information Systems and Networking (ISIN), supervised by Prof. Silvia Giordano and Dr. Omran Ayoub. His research is funded by the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. His research focuses on trustworthy and responsible AI for network security, particularly detecting intrusions and phishing attacks. He studies how to make these AI systems reliable in real-world use, not just accurate in tests: able to express how confident they are, explain their decisions, resist deliberate manipulation, and keep up as threats change. He also looks at their energy cost, so they can run on small, resource-limited devices. He is interested in how AI-based security systems can be made transparent, accountable, and dependable, and he is keen to exchange ideas and collaborate across the European community.
